Legend: Eleanor Lambert- the empress of seventh avenue.

With fashion week just around the corner ( I cant wait ) , I just wanted to bring to your attention the lady who was behind it all. The lovely Mrs. Eleanor Lambert started fashion week in 1943. When Germany invaded France, the American press was unable to attend the shows in Paris so Mrs. Lambert gave the world New York fashion week. Fashion week was a semi annual gala held at the Plaza or the Pierre hotels. There the fashion press were able to take in the beauty of Parisian haute couture and ready to wear. Not only did Eleanor start fashion week she also started the International best dressed list in 1940 and she is the founder of the Council of Fashion designers of America or CFDA. Today there are fashion weeks held all over the world and we can all thank the little lady from Crawfordville, Indiana.
